Klio Care vs. Axxess Physician Portal
The Axxess Physician Portal is free, web-based and lets you sign orders from agencies that run Axxess. The catch is in that last clause: it is one EHR’s portal. If your patients go to six agencies on four different EHRs, you have four portals and a fax machine. Klio is one dashboard for every agency, with referrals and a monthly G-code report built in, for $100 a month.

What Axxess Physician Portal is
Axxess is one of the largest home health and hospice EHRs. Its Physician Portal lets physicians review and electronically sign orders, complete face-to-face and Care Plan Oversight documentation, return orders for correction, and refer patients to participating Axxess organisations — all through a free web login. Axxess markets the portal to agencies as a differentiator that helps them win referrals.
The agency pays for Axxess: 2026 buyer guides put Axxess Home Health at roughly $1,500 and up per month on a one-year term. The portal is included in that subscription.
The limitation is structural rather than a missing feature. The portal only sees agencies on Axxess. An office that refers to agencies on Homecare Homebase, WellSky and MatrixCare as well needs their portals too — in practice, offices decline and the orders fall back to fax.
Where the Axxess portal is strong
It is free, nothing to install, and if your referral pattern is concentrated in one or two Axxess agencies it covers a real share of your orders. Certification and CPO tracking inside the portal is helpful, and the ability to view orders across multiple participating Axxess organisations in one login is better than most EHR portals manage.
Where Klio wins for physician offices
Every agency, one login. Klio is EHR-agnostic. Invite the Axxess agency, the HCHB agency and the WellSky agency; all three are live in minutes and every order lands in one queue. No more deciding which portal to check today.
Referrals to anyone. On the Axxess portal you can refer to Axxess agencies. On Klio your front desk builds one complete packet and routes it to whichever agency the patient prefers, with acceptance tracked live.
Billing that reaches your billers. Klio sends a monthly G0180 / G0179 report with evidence attached to your billing team automatically. Portal-based tracking is only as good as someone remembering to log in and export it — and it only covers that EHR’s patients.
Transparent cost. $100 a month, no contract. “Free” portals are paid for by agencies through EHR subscriptions in the thousands per month, and they are built to keep the agency’s referral sources close to that EHR.
Klio vs. Axxess Physician Portal: frequently asked questions
Is the Axxess Physician Portal free?
Yes, for physicians. It is included in the Axxess subscription the agency pays for — roughly $1,500 and up per month on a one-year term per 2026 buyer guides. It only works with agencies running Axxess.
Why would I pay for Klio if the Axxess portal is free?
Because the portal covers one EHR. Klio covers every agency you refer to — Axxess, Homecare Homebase, WellSky, MatrixCare or anything else — in one dashboard, adds referral sending and tracking to any agency, and delivers a monthly G0180 / G0179 billing report with evidence to your billers. It starts at $100 a month with no contract.
Can I refer to a non-Axxess agency from the Axxess portal?
No — the referral form goes to participating Axxess organisations. On Klio you can invite any agency with a link and refer to whichever one the patient prefers.
Can my Axxess agencies still use Klio?
Yes. Agencies keep Axxess as their EHR and accept your Klio invitation. Klio sits between your office and the agency, so nothing changes about how they chart.
